I’m no stranger to the condition of insomnia. I’m a bit of a night bear. Were you expecting owl? What a hoot. My mind constantly brims with thoughts and ideas, spectral and otherworldly, distracting me from sleep I dearly adore. It can be difficult to shut these processes down. Rest and recuperation are a lovely thing which sometimes feels like it must be earned, almost like the goddess of night, Nyx, requires exhaustion in exchange. Some of the best slumber I’ve ever enjoyed has come on the tail-end of glorious evenings that blur into night and early morning whilst I groove and move through dance floors and festival grounds. With that in mind, let me introduce you to a different kind of ‘Insomnia’, courtesy of illustrious electronic duo, Eli and Fur.
‘Insomnia’ is a gorgeous track which upon first listening, I immediately engaged the repeat function on my media player. This one’s special. I’m still exploring sonic peaks and valleys, every nook and cranny of its sound design. What? I can’t sleep. This track’s hot, it’s helping! It’s an outstanding anthem for the sleepless afflicted, rife with delicate dulcet vocals mingling amongst a vaulting house beat, hissy hi-hats, and euphonious synths. Lyrics recall nights of contemplative wakefulness as I consider my past, future, and every single subjective misstep through which success endures.
