Of The Trees, aka Tyler Coombs, has a sound approach to music production that has ingratiated him to audiences far and wide. His sets can be likened to the telling of a story, tracks like personally crafted messages indicative of the majesty Tyler observes within forests and trees. There are many who have said this before, and it inevitably will be said again, he’s like a living embodiment of Dr. Seuss’s character, The Lorax. Of The Trees has come to remind audiences far and wide of the beauty harbored in forest and natural biomes spread throughout our world, across a musical soundscape one can happily lose themselves within.

I adore how Of The Trees titles his songs. Tracks like ‘Spanish Moss’, ‘Muscaria’, ‘Everglade March’, and ‘The Owl Song’ are all personal favorites of mine. They’re beautifully constructed, and inspire an appreciation of Earth’s natural treasures. ‘Spanish Moss’ and ‘Everglade March’ transport me to biomes like those I’ve found in Florida. Suwanee, anyone? ‘The Owl Song’ is a gorgeously designed serenade. It reminds me of when I hear that delicate repetition of an owl ‘hoot’ under darkness of night, lovely notes accompanying my falling into the throes of sleep.

Do you appreciate mushrooms? Turn off for a bit, and go hunting for Amanita Muscaria. It’s a charming looking fungus with a scarlet red cap that encourages its standing out from amongst the dirt on forest floors. They are poisonous and psychoactive, so I wouldn’t recommend eating them without doing your research first. To me, a track like ‘Muscaria’ is more about the journey and what we’ll find when we give a bit of our time and energy back to the natural order of things, inevitably aiding our own internal processes along the way.

On January 24 and 25, Of The Trees will bring his one-of-a-kind presentation to Royal Oak, MI (just outside of Detroit) and Chicago, IL, respectively. He won’t be alone, accompanied by terrific and talented producers Detox Unit, Opiou, and Sylph at both happenings. His Michigan concert on January 24 will take place at the Royal Oak Music Theatre. The January 25 occasion will occur at Chicago’s, The Salt Shed, a venue that once was little more than a warehouse holding reserves of Morton’s Salt. Today, The Salt Shed is a gorgeous music campus and venue, one of the best in the Chicagoland area, and here Of The Trees, Detox Unit, Opiou, and Sylph will be joined by DMVU. Tickets to both these shows, as well the remaining concerts for this first phase for Of The Trees presents: Moonglade, can be acquired through Ticketmaster, Of The Trees website, or this ticket link.
