I love it when an artist explores arenas of thought that feel integral to human experience. Take for instance the duality between darkness and light, a concept that has long been considered by advocates of psychology and philosophy. Illumination and shadow. Comprehension and contemplation. What we can see versus what we cannot. When we explore these elements, we cultivate greater comprehension of ourselves and the world about us. Perhaps that’s some of what Ekorce seeks to convey with his newest album, Chiaroscuro, released on May 1, 2026.
Chiaroscuro is an art technique that defines the dispersion between shades of light and shadow in an image (Dictionary.com). It allows an artist to express depth and emotion. If an image can tell a complex story in a single frame, imagine the narrative a record contains. As Ekorce continues to push his boundaries in production and storytelling, this idea became the lens through which he focused his latest compositions. Considering the parity between darkness and light and how it influenced this collection, he shared these thoughts.
“I found myself drawn to the idea of an album centered on the opposition between darkness and light. Over time, the album became less about choosing light or darkness, and more about understanding how both coexist and shape each other.
“Chiaroscuro explores the shifting spectrum between shadow and light, not as a binary opposition but as a continuum of emotional states. Like in painting or photography, darkness is not the absence of light but what gives it depth and intensity. The album moves through emotional gradients, revealing that every internal state is shaped by contrast, that clarity emerges from obscurity, and obscurity carries its own hidden glow.”

Chiaroscuro, released through Gravitas Recordings, is a gorgeous presentation of contemplative melodies. Ekorce’s sensational sound design captivates through nine tracks that resonate encouragement like an organic exploration of the self and intellect via psychedelic bass rhythms. To think, to feel, to consider what is and what could be. It’s powerful to say the least, and every single note feels intentionally laid as part of his greater symphony. His work is rife with vivid connotations straight from Ekorce’s imagination and is a striking demonstration of the depth of his mind’s ever flowing expanse.
There’s also something to be said for the titles of these tracks and how they seem indicative of what his music potentially conveys to a listener. ‘Last Embers’ elicits imagery in my mind of a fire casting warmth amidst a cold, dark night. It’s an atmospheric tune that seems to brim and crackle with toasty energy that cascades and crescendos. ‘In Two Minds’ embodies the thought, at least to me, that we each are combinations of darkness and light. It’s a gorgeous song that seems to suggest that we should embrace all that we are to find our groove. This one’s a bit bouncy along the way which should definitely help you bust a move.
‘Blur’, perhaps my favorite from this compilation, certainly represents a dichotomy of emotional expressiveness illuminated by radiant notes mingling with melancholy. It’s deeply beautiful, and somewhat mysterious, much like the wonder of making our way through a fog-laden landscape. Similarly, ‘Page Blanche’ transmits a mystique that will have you speculating, what comes next? It reminds me of the French expression, carte blanche, which means complete freedom, free rein, or full discretion. If you had a blank page to do with as you pleased, how would you make the most of it? It’s an uplifting and energetic tune to help your consideration. The full track list is as follows:
- ‘Chiaroscuro’
- ‘Last Embers’
- ‘In Two Minds’
- ‘Smoke and Mirrors’
- ‘Blur’
- ‘Page Blanche’
- ‘Beyond The Veil’
- ‘Ink’
- ‘Tremor’
Without a doubt this is a magnificent downtempo journey that showcases both Ekorce’s awe-inspiring audial architecture as well as his ability to imbue perspective and reflection into his music. To take a concept that is most notable in painting as exemplified by artists the likes of Vincent van Gogh and Rembrandt and use it as inspiration in the creation of his own work is nothing short of genius. Which is standard operating procedure for Ekorce. Realizing the necessity to balance between our lighter and darker selves grants us appreciation of our place and position within this world. Knowledge gained through delving our own mysteries. All things deserve their space, and given enough time and patience, all will be revealed.

Be well, be successful. Bear Swiftly.
